Water management is a topic and needs an action along with it. E.g. Creating ways to conserve water in school. The ways can be specified based on what the students would like to do or the facility and resources easily available. The topic chosen is very much related to the child’s context and if built as per the sections- Research, Planning, Action, Reflection, it can form a strong project with links to various subjects.

Training on 14.10.20 was nice. Highly inspiring and motivating. The real escence of this training should be experienced by teachers by live session . We are proud to share the link with our hub schools. However Mandatory circulars from COE and CBSE regarding Experiential training and Diksha portal should be sent again to make all principals and entire teaching fraternity of CBSE understand the importance of this plan. Mainly , COE's are expected to ensure this training. The final message of RP ..was truely inspiring..
    * The role of Educator is to bring joyful learning , Equity and happiness in the field of Education and learning*

The project, 'Awareness about the role of gram Panchayat', is quite action oriented. However, awareness is a very broad theme and so the project can have a central idea with an action attached to it. E.g. Creating awareness charts on the role or Gram Panchyat (Note: this suggestion is based on the action that is mentioned in the ppt) or Performing a skit on the role of gram Panchayat. If you consider the second option, then the activities under research, planning etc. will change accordingly. The topic is quite relevant to the child’s context and has a purpose. In the initial representation part of the mind map, more simpler and fun activities can be taken up to begin with, so that we are able to gauge what understanding students already have. E.g. enact like the head of the family, head of a housing society where you live, head of a village and this can form a part of the brain storming discussion leading to what you have already mentioned in this section. The children can also create a body like this in their own classes and understand the structure and functioning of Gram Panchayat through it. The points mentioned under ‘Plan of Action’ can go as parts of ‘Research’. Plan of action should have elements of planning like resource management, time management, material needed, costing for building awareness etc. for the action that they choose. So, if the action is ‘Creating awareness charts on the role or Gram Panchyat’ then the planning would be more to do with resources, time allocation and places where it will be displayed etc. If the action is ‘Performing a skit on the role of gram Panchayat’, then it has a lot to do with costing, place of performance, invites etc. Each of these elements has different competencies embedded in them. The topic definitely has its roots in social science but can be linked to other subjects very easily with smaller outcomes in each disciple, e.g. debate on current value systems that prevail in gram panchayat, writing reports after the visit, writing script for the play, writing text for invites (language), skit/drama on the functioning of the body (performing arts), surveys and data collection, costing (Math). The mind map presented here mentions the subjects but how they are linked can be elaborated as the outer most whorl of the mind map. As I see, a very dry topic has been dealt very nicely though the mapping. A few changes will make it complete and ready for classroom use.

Wonders of light is a catchy title given to topic, ‘Reflection and Refraction’ and gives a very innovative impression. It is mainly a topic, and needs to have a central idea with an action attached to it. Perhaps it could be ‘Create a periscope or kaleidoscope’ etc. The topic in itself is very contextual and children see these phenomena around them and hence their real life experiences and examples can be taken as the action to go ahead with this topic. The mapping as presented here doesn’t have a defined outcome (in terms of what the children are doing/making/creating. The processes/stages are missing and links to various subjects are not presented in the mind map. If I see is only as a Physics oriented mind map for a topic, then it is perfect but as a mind map for a project, it needs changes.

    1. “How to make a lantern or a dream catcher” – Or, it can be stated as “Making a Lantern or a Dream-catcher”
Congratulations on a beautifully mapped project that is relevant to the child’s context and has a purpose. Both the outcomes, whether they make a lantern or a dream catcher, show a very strong relevance to the child’s environment or their world.
The intention or end goal can be more clearly identified in the title itself. It seems like two project options, both are very rich with possibilities of connections to other disciplines and concepts therein. Both can go in different directions, with different learning outcomes. The purpose will differ accordingly. Eg. If the students are making a dream catcher, there is a link to Aboriginal art, culture, folk tales, dream analysis, etc.
I wonder what changes need to be made if the students are making a lantern. Eg. It links more to sciences and economics.

    2. This feedback and the one above is from the Mahatma Gandhi International School team - Anita
Somehow my name is not showing above. I am continuing here.
The project has defined an outcome that follows as a consequence or result of the processes followed. Thought has been given towards identifying deeper understanding goals. Some details have been furnished towards explaining ‘what’ the student will be learning and able to understand as a result or effect of the processes undertaken during the project.
Are they actually going to make either of these products? The actual action plan will change accordingly. The different processes or stages are mapped in a cursory manner, more details could be provided for a better understanding of what the students will do. Eg. Space and Time are concepts addressed, the use of action words at each step of the process will indicate more clearly “what” the student will do to understand that ‘concept’ or ‘idea’. The learning outcomes in different subjects could be specifically identified.

This is a fantastic project - “How to make a Handkerchief” Or could be titled “Making a Handkerchief”
The project has a very strong relevance to the child’s environment or world. The intention or end goal is very clearly identified. The learning experiences are hands-on and concrete ones that will lend a deeper understanding of the concepts, and lead to a clearly defined outcome.
The interdisciplinary connections have been well developed. Elaborate details have been furnished towards explaining ‘what’ the student is learning and is able to understand. What grade level is it meant for?
The link to History of cotton is a good idea and the quiz /Trivia seems engaging and valuable too. How can we make the student feel ‘I can’ rather than ‘I don’t know’? Would they be made familiar with some of the new terms before the quiz is given?
      Continued below....

    2. This is Anita Shah again.
The plan of action should have action words for each part of the process. This shows what the student will be ‘doing’- eg. Participate in a debate about why people have pocket-handkerchiefs. In geography, key terms could be more specific, such as for ‘Raw material’, what will they learn here? In ‘Tools’, is it a theoretical or a hands-on exercise?
The reflection could include more aspects of the life skill outcomes as well as learning outcomes in each subject.

The project has a very strong relevance to the child’s surroundings. The end goal is very clearly identified. The learning experiences are hands-on and concrete ones that will lend a deeper understanding of the scientific concepts in the unit. The pre-activity and pre-conceived notions are well thought out. It is student-centered and fosters engagement. It creates interest and brings an element of fun in the learning process.

The project title itself has a very clearly defined outcome and a clear focus on ‘what’ you expect the student to understand as a consequence of the processes followed. Exactly ‘how’ will the students make a boat, could have been more elaborately described. This involves methodology and each step in this process could be indicated here. Also, target grade levels for this unit could be identified.

    2. Research about ‘How does it feel when you are on a boat or a ship?’ links very beautifully with the learning outcome: “to enrich from the maritime history of oceanic voyages”. The interdisciplinary connections to Arts /History (eg. view the movie about the sinking of the Titanic), and link to Language, essay or report writing on “An imaginary journey on a ship” are possible. It could link to students’ real life experiences, such as movies, vacations or field trips, which connect to the student’s real world context.
